Question by The Trophy: Is anyone else not a real fan of newer video games and where video game development is going?
I was born in 1986 and grew up playing many video games on many different consoles, but the PS3 and all the other “Next Generation Consoles” give me that “Been there. Done that. YAWN” type of feeling. I am not saying there aren’t good games coming out for those systems anymore, it’s just that I see a LOT of shooter games flooding the market and games with original ideas coming out every once so often.
Also, I really don’t care for the Wii controller. Sure, it’s a cool idea and to keep things fresh and new you have to keep going back to the well and re-inventing things from time to time, but I just don’t like the idea of having to swing something around numerous times to play a game. I’d much rather have the old controller plugged into the console type of deal going. Also, X-Box’s project “Natal” and whatever motion control thing Sony is doing isn’t really getting me that excited. I could be wrong and it could be a really neat thing, but it sort of looks like another attempt by video game companies to tap into the “casual gamer market” so that even 5 year-olds and your grandparents will get excited about playing something and want their own system.
I don’t think my distaste occurs because I am older. I just don’t see anything coming out that makes me think,” I have to buy this system so that I can play that game!” Also, the online play thing is a turnoff. I don’t need to hear other people talking to me in a headset when I am trying to play a game. Playing video games is ME time…when I want to be left alone to space out and not have to hear anyone else talk and I probably wouldn’t be able to keep up with most people because I only play video games about 1-2 hours a week…if that… because video games are a hobby of mine, not a sport/way of life like they have become to many today.
Lastly, all the PS3 fan boys Vs. XBOX 360 fanboy stuff I’ve had the displeasure of seeing on the internet is an insult to anyone who’s ever picked up a controller. The same crap occurred long ago with Nintendo Vs. Sega except now we have the internet so that people filled with nerd rage can help get there hate across. Who cares what other people’s preferences are? Be a human being and play whatever you want no matter what system it’s on. Leave everyone else alone and let them do the same.

I’m not being rude or anything but sounds like you’re stuck in the retro gaming time warp. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. It just means you have higher expectations.
